This autumn, we see the return of My Perfect Mind created by Told By An Idiot. The artistic, comical and heartbreaking autobiographical tale of legendary actor Edward Petherbridge as he suffered a stroke whilst preparing to play one of Shakespeare's most revered roles, King Lear.

Having seen the show on it's previous run here at unity, all's I can say is, go and see it. It's heartbreaking, absolutely hilarious, clever, sweet, thought-provoking, with acting of the highest quality, performed by two of the Uk's finest comedy and drama actors.

So it's no wonder the show has been getting rave reviews right across the board, from it's previous tour and it's current tour.

Here's a few recent reviews to tantalise your theatrical tastebuds! :)

Theatre Bubble
Over the past 8 years and 7 trips across the pond, Beth and I have fallen in love with the city, a cliché I know. That first visit had us whispering with excitement and anticipation, ‘We’re in New York!’, every time we ventured out on the streets. NYC had us in its grasp, and since then we have ventured further and explored the boroughs with the same excitement we felt then. Across that time I have taken several thousand photographs of the city. I’ve tried to capture its secrets, its charms, its personality and tried to avoid the clichéd picture postcard images.

The Stage
It was at that point that I came across Walt Whitman ‘s poem of 1900, Manahatta. He describes a city ‘superb, with tall and wonderful spires. Numberless crowded streets—high growths of iron, slender, strong, light, splendidly uprising toward clear skies.’ I realised that I was looking to eradicate the very essence of New York. I re-looked at my photographs, the icons loomed large in the background, be it in Williamsburg, New Jersey or Long Island City, as from anywhere in the city. I saw that the ‘wonderful spires and hurried and sparkling waters’ are new York and I needed to revel in them as Whitman had!

The Public Reviews
But even then I had to get the help of friends and family to narrow down the 70 or so in the shortlist to about 30. So thanks to Jason Maher, Rosie, Mags and Beth James for thier enthusiasm and support.

The photographs are now installed at the Unity Theatre, (Hope Place, Liverpool, in case you were wondering.) and ready for inspection. And with the opening looming tomorrow, Fri 5/09, I am getting a trifle nervous about people’s reactions!
