Lampedusa

Lampedusa

Direct from London, Lampedusa, is the new hit drama by Anders Lustgarten about mass migration and is a co-production between Unity Theatre, Soho Theatre and HighTide Festival Theatre. Alongside Lampedusa we've programmed the brilliant The Bogus Woman, which stars Coronation Street's Krissi Bohn and shares the themes of asylum, immigration and finding human connection.

Lampedusa has also inspired a companion programme of mini performances and workshops - including new work by 20 Stories High, Unity Youth Theatre, Clapperboard, Action Transport Theatre and Collective Encounters. We hope to see you there!

Lampedusa

‘His best yet… brave, bold and moving.’
The Guardian

A powerful plea for empathy.’
The Stage

'One of the most gently enticing pieces of storytelling you will see'
The Times

The paradisal island of Lampedusa. Where North Africa meets Rome. Home of postcard vistas, white sand beaches, and the site of the most devastating debris washing up on the shore.

Putting us in the shoes of those whose job it is to enforce our rules, this is the story behind the headlines of two strangers finding hope and connection where they least expect it.

Lampedusa is by award-winning playwright Anders Lustgarten (If You Don’t Let Us Dream, We Won’t Let You Sleep, A Day at the Racists, Black Jesus) and directed by Steven Atkinson, Artistic Director of HighTide (peddling, Bottleneck, Lidless).

The Bogus Woman

‘Adshead tells it with such spare poetry and blistering anger’
The Guardian

‘an outstanding performance’
The Stage

‘essential watching’
The Independent

An African woman arrives in a strange country fleeing for her life, seeking safety and asylum. Despite having committed no crime she is indefinitely confined, interrogated, humiliated and abused. She witnesses the cruelty of the authorities and their casual disregard for an individual’s human rights. This strange country is England.

Krissi Bohn (Coronation Street) performs this powerful, poetic and heart-wrenching play – bringing to life the 51 sharply etched characters who retell the experiences of this young woman.

Please note that this production contains strong language and scenes that may be unsuitable for younger audiences.

Adrift

A five minute play written by Beverley Hancock, directed by Nina Hajiyianni, with Artistic Director, Action Transport Theatre.

Two young people are in a boat. One is rowing. One is fishing. Their talk is light-hearted; of catching a fish, a fish so big it will capsize the boat, of harnessing a dolphin who will pull the boat along so Sara no longer has to row, of pirates and buried treasure and mermaids who sing beautiful, enchanting melodies….as the play progresses, it becomes clear that Sara and Kalib are not addressing each other, but another character hidden from view, laid out along the bottom of the boat: their mother.

Adrift will be included as a pre-show performance for Lampedusa on Wed 30 Sep. To purchase tickets for Lampedusa on that performance please click the link below.

Please note that Adrift will be a preshow performance at the beginning of the scheduled Lampedusa start time.

There will also be a  free 6:15pm performance of 'Adrift' on Sat 3rd Oct.
