unitytheatre, Liverpool with Riksteatern and Vasterbottensteatern from Sweden When We Dead AwakenBy Henrik Ibsen. Directed by Josette Bushell-Mingo. Translated by Michael MeyerThursday 23 October to Saturday 1 Novemberunity with Riksteatern and Vasterbottensteatern from Sweden present an international co-production of When We Dead Awaken, the final dramatic work from Henrik Ibsen, one of Scandinavia’s greatest playwrights, in a unique collaboration for 2008.Arnold Rubek, a celebrated sculptor and his wife, Maia, find themselves tense and ill at ease while traveling. Maia finds herself drawn to Ulfheim, a brutal hunter who contrasts sharply with her cold, withdrawn husband. A cast and production team of English and Swedish artists have been working together under the direction of unity patron Josette Bushell-Mingo. Josette has worked as a director and actor with the Royal National Theatre, RSC, Manchester Royal Exchange, and Young Vic and created the role of Rafiki in the UK premier of the Lion King. Josette is a co-founder of PUSH, the major festival celebrating contemporary Black arts and Black artists, and is currently artistic director of Tyst Teater, which is part of the Riksteatern’s national touring programme. Directing When We Dead Awaken as an international project is the fulfilment of an ambition for Josette. Her flare for a strikingly visual, total theatre style provides the opportunity to approach this uncompromising, honest and rarely performed play as a new text. Following it’s UK premier at unity When We Dead Awaken will tour Sweden. previews £6.00 Thursday 23 and Friday 24 Gala Night £10.00 Saturday 25 October showtime 8:00pm Tuesday 28 October to Saturday 1 November showtime 8:00pm tickets: £10.00/£8.00 concessions BOOK HERE

Hans Christian Andersen's The Emperor's New ClothesTuesday 2 December 2008 to Saturday 17 JanuaryThe Emperor's New Clothes, continues unity’s 21 year passion for traditional stories told in an untraditional way and follows the success of Pinocchio and The Tinder Box.Emperor Bling is a proud and wealthy man but he hasn't got a thing to wear! In his huge palace he has a huge walk in wardrobe full of the finest clothes, he has new clothes every day, in fact he cares more for his clothes than he does his citizens. His fashion fixation has created a wool shortage so he's raised the sheep shearing tax. The townsfolk are up in arms and he's beginning to get the feeling they don't like him. Even his sweetheart is tiring of his vanity. In a bid to win them all round he hires two dodgy taylors, Wicked and Wicked, who promise him the finest suit of clothes from the most beautiful cloth. Will his new threads be bling enough to dazzle them? Will Wicked and Wicked prove to be a pair of conmen? Will the audience see right through Emperor Bling's Charms? Liverpool’s Patrick Dineen, who composed and arranged the score for Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture launch on St George's plateau directs and provides the music for this sure fire Christmas treat. showtimes Public Performances: Tuesday 2 December 7:00pm Saturdays 6 & 13 December 2:00pm & 5:30pm Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 December 2:00pm & 5:30pm Monday 22 & Tuesday 23 December 2:00pm & 5:30pm Friday 2 January 5:30pm Saturdays 3, 10 & 17 January 2:00pm & 5:30pm tickets familytickets £23.00 [2 adults and 2 children] adults: £8.50/£6.50 concessions children: £4.00 Schools performances Weekdays From Wednesday 3 December to Friday 16 January 10:00am & 1:30pm.
