Mothers Who Make - Unity Theatre

Mothers Who Make is a growing national initiative aimed at supporting mothers who are artists – professional and/or passionate. Every kind of maker is welcomed, and every kind of mother.

Liverpool Hub is coordinated by Tmesis Theatre’s Producer, Claire Bigley, going into its 3rd year we are currently operating online and welcome new makers & mothers to join us each month.  Unity has been the venue partner, and continue to support this initiative from afar.
The outcomes of MWM have been too many to capture.  Some of the highlights;
  • female connections & bonds in practice and motherhood,
  • sharing of practice and workshop opportunities,
  • projects developed & created together,
  • an exhibition of work in a regional venue

A word from Hub Co-ordinator Claire Bigley

I have been working within the arts sector since 1997 and spent 15 years working within Arts Development, notably part of the team who successfully had The Brindley built in Runcorn, resulting in becoming Principal Arts Officer for Halton.

It was during this time I become a Mum and made the decision to leave my full-time role and go back to freelance work. This was the BEST decision for me and my boy…giving me more independence, flexibility and allows me to manage my work/ life balance.

I have made creative things happen in many different contexts; community settings, libraries, venues, outdoors, schools, hospitals, prisons…it’s who I am, makes me tick, and I can’t imagine ever doing anything else!

What I enjoy most is working with people to explore their creativity, to develop their practice and navigate their long-term development and resilience.

I look forward to meeting you and developing MWM Liverpool together!
