Part of Up Next Weekender – September
Beyond Binary is an autobiographical performance from the perspective of Little Doll, aka Jay Farley; a 48-year-old non-binary artist who finally has the language to make them valid. And they’re going to use it!
The show links spoken word performance, movement, film, visuals and music. It brings to life the experience of not being valid in the world for 4 decades and describes the finding, the fallout and the freedom of finding their voice.
Expect the unexpected as Little Doll explores the changing landscape and language of gender and sexuality.
About Jay Farley (Aka Little Doll):
Jay Farley (aka Little Doll) has worked as a filmmaker for 20 years, with films selected for festivals worldwide, including award winning shorts, documentaries and feature films.
Coming out as Non Binary a year ago had a profound effect on Jay’s life and creativity. They found the language to describe their identity and language found them. They started prolifically writing Poetry and developed their gritty, witty and honest voice on the ‘Queer Bodies’ programme, under the tutelage of many poets including the T.S. Eliot prize-winning Joelle Taylor. Jay is soon to be published in two anthologies.
