Macondo - Unity Theatre

Friday 11th February

by Silvia Mercuriali

A New Theatre Royal Portsmouth co-commission supported by Barbican Open Lab and funded by the Arts Council of England.

Performed Live at Unity

An ingenious audio show where the audience create the performance together.

Inspired by One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Macondo is a brand-new unique show that combines instruction-based theatre, binaural sound and video.

It tells the story of the making of a village that appears for fifty minutes only in an empty theatre and takes the shape of the people that inhabit it. Choosing between Beginners, Intermediate and Heroes the participants decide the level of involvement they want to have in the show and abandon themselves to a predetermined script.
