The Advocacy Story

Fri 05 April 2019

Summer 2019 | Theatre

People First Merseyside is a self-advocacy organisation, that has been supporting people with learning disabilities to speak up about issues that affect their lives for the past 30 years. The Advocacy Story is a Heritage Lottery funded oral history project to celebrate this milestone.

Steering group of members from People First Merseyside have researched the history of the organisation. They also found out what life was like for people with learning disabilities who lived in long term care 30 years ago, before people with learning disabilities began moving into the community.

The group curated an accessible exhibition to share this history with the public. They also created animations about their People First stories in collaboration with the Blue Room at Bluecoat. This performance will celebrate this important history with an even wider audience. A world premiere, the piece will then go on to tour throughout Merseyside.
