Once upon a time, in a town with no cats,
Arrived a swarm of ravenous rats.
They ate up the chocolate, they ate up the pie,
They ate up so much the mayor started to cry!
Can nobody save us? Will nobody try?
When all of a sudden a Piper came by...
I’ll rid you of rats, both thin and both long
I’ll do it with music, I’ll do it with song!
But sadly the town was unwilling to pay,
So one of the children must save the day!
A family show with song, dance and fun,
A musical adventure perfect for everyone.

A unitytheatre and Action Transport Theatre production
unitytheatre is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the performing arts on Merseyside by encouraging creativity, participation, innovation and diversity. One of the best loved theatres in Liverpool we recently won the Best Performing Venue award at the Mersey Partnership Tourism Awards. unitytheatre is proud to be core funded by Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council.
We work extensively throughout our local community. Our latest work - The Y Project, is funded by Liverpool City Council's Disarm Partnership and is an education resource produced by Unity Theatre for use by young people, parents, teachers, youth workers, health and housing professionals, probation, youth offending and police officers.
It features short films and presentations which highlight some of the factors leading to gun and knife use and illustrates the potential consequences of carrying and using weapons. It signposts support and provides examples of some of the good practice developed by our partners. For more information
Action Transport Theatre
Action Transport Theatre exists to put new writing and young people at the heart of UK Theatre.
We have established unique processes of making new writing theatre by putting young people at the heart of all our work.
We explore what theatre and new writing can do in the 21st Century and the vital and changing roles young people can play in the making of original and significant theatre for our time.
We create new work at Whitby Hall, our theatre base in Ellesmere Port, and are the only specialist new writing and dedicated young people’s theatre company in Cheshire. We develop new writing productions for traditional and non-traditional spaces. We also export plays, processes, skills and ideas to ensure that the voices and creativity of young people contribute to the richness and diversity of our theatre landscape.
ATT continues to evolve as a learning and sharing organisation, working increasingly in strong partnerships to maximise resources and create new opportunities.
We work with others to platform and promote theatre by and with young people, as well as exceptional theatre that is made for them.
“…Unity Theatre and Action Transport Theatre’s production mixes morality with magic and mirth to fire the imaginations of youngsters and sow the seed for a love of the stage.”
“Doolan maintains an excellent compelling aura as The Piper in what is his first professional role.”
“The use of backdrops (especially with the odd rat), spooky sounds and a cunning little set which served the several scenes definitely helps to conjure up the feeling of magic which is such an essential part of seasonal children’s shows.”
The Public Reviews
"The whole cast were enthralling...more than worthy of other alternative Festive shows...No matter your age, this is a very enjoyable show that gives the right sense of beguilement and mystery that gives credence to the thought that not everything needs to be covered in tinsel to be a cracker at Christmas."
