We are delighted to announce that Unity have been successful in achieving funding from The Backstage Trust to go towards building regeneration and upgrading.

The Backstage Trust invest in charities and CICs, with a particular emphasis on new writing, young people in the arts, freelance community and more.

Unity’s building is rich with history and culture and so there are some old aches and pains in the structure that have built up over years of shows and generations of brilliant artists. This funding from The Backstage Trust will be vital in addressing some of these issues that have crept into the building over all these years.

With the building in the best condition that it can be, the team will have more time to invest in Unity’s future as opposed to trying to mend the past. This regeneration will directly contribute to Unity’s ability to aid Merseyside artists, support incredible careers, and put on work that you won’t be able to see anywhere else.

Making incredible art accessible to all has been at the forefront of Unity’s mission for years.  For example, we aim to feature captioning, BSL, audio description, relaxed performances etc. in as many of the shows on our stage as possible. This funding will directly contribute to our ability to make the space more accessible for everyone by contributing to updating our wheelchair and step free access amongst other things.

We would like to thank the Backstage Trust for their investment in us. As a result of strengthening the very building blocks of Unity, the artists that pass through it will be even more likely to flourish.
